Trading volume is the number of ETF shares exchanged over a given period (typically 30 days). High volume indicates good liquidity: you can buy or sell quickly without affecting the price.
Low volume doesn't mean an ETF is bad — some excellent Canadian ETFs have modest volume. But if you're trading significant amounts, use limit orders rather than market orders to avoid paying an unfavorable price.
